Thanks Amy, yeah, the online distribution model is really changing everything, from shopping to media consumption. One thing I didn't mention was how odd it was to watch commercials. I'm like "What it this bullcrap you're forcing me to watch?!"

Glad your hubby used that new paradigm to keep in touch with news from back home. Twitter, Instagram, and instant messaging apps can create quite a nice little environment for keeping up with things.

Malls - at least in the US, I think malls are dying because folks are shopping online now. In Thailand they are a cheap and entertaining way to escape the oppressive heat.

Awful TV - More people are switching to streaming TV. Network television sucks! My (Thai) husband uses an app now called Kodi that he gets HDTV live streaming straight from Thailand, which has helped him deal with the King's passing.

Yeah, and I still cringe when they say "And it only costs you $0.10 when someone calls you." I have to pay for someone to call ME?! That's some bullshit right there.
And yeah...SwAss gets old pretty quick. :)

Enjoyed reading this. I live in Bangkok and am now spending time in a few different parts of the US, and indeed the mobile network is pathetic here too. I remember being in remote villages in the mountains of far, far northern Thailand and Vietnam and still having mobile coverage there. In the States, I've had "No Service" for hour-long stretches on major highways and often lose service in and around cities as well. Internet service is also very average (comparable to Thailand but nowhere near Singapore or Japan, for ex.) and expensive. Another thing that's better about Thailand is all of the bathrooms for public use; in the US it can be tough finding one without buying something.

However, being able to stand outside for more than 10 minutes without getting "SwAss" is pretty nice.
