Greg: That's good to hear that BKK is a bit more accessible than I'm imagining. Even though I've been there many times, I haven't really gotten a chance to know the city as much as I should have. Thankfully, they (government, city planners, Bangkok city council, etc.) are recognizing the importance of mass transit - the master plan for Bangkok looks awesome. It probably won't be finished for a long while but it's slowly but surely.

Megan, that's why I suggest you support your local cockroach spay/neuter clinic. Tiny implements can make big changes!

Aw, I'm blushing!

Dude, I looked up the cockroach/diptheria thing, UNFORTUNATELY, because I discovered that a pair of cockroaches can produce ***20,000*** offspring a year. Not cool, cockroaches, not cool.

Thanks for posting guys.
Ben: Yes, I think the MRT and BTS are sufficient, as long as they're used in tandem with other modes of transport. While they don't cover the whole city, you can use any combination of MRT/BTS/motorcycle/taxi/boat/bus/tuk-tuk to get pretty much anywhere you need to. I definitely do not want to have a car, I think it would severely limit your options.
Snap: Thanks for reading, and yeah, isn't Megan coolio? You're right about the rubber bands... if they had a rubber band olympics, Thailand would clean up. :)

Greg, I love your take on BKK. I found your blog eons ago, but then lost it, until Megan pointed you out (Bangkok Reality Smackdown)...glad she did! Things here (Thailand) are very different in many ways, but also similar in others. It's great to still get a smile out of finding or seeing something new...nearly everyday. Like how rubber bands are used....maybe I'm too easily amused?

Cheers

One of my reservations about living and working in Bangkok was actually using the skytrain and the MTR as the main means of transportation as it is very limited to compared to other cities. Since you've lived there for a long time, do you find it sufficient for everyday life? I've been to Bangkok many, many, times but it strikes me as a city that can be difficult to live in without a car.

The bus system is confusing and the driving is horrible. I preferred using the skytrain and the MTR but it just doesn't go everywhere (yet).

Since my family has lived in the US for a long time now, we sometimes get a bit of a stomachache when we eat street food in Thailand. Still, it doesn't stop us from enjoying it!
